Welcome to our Website! Deaf Awareness Week (DAW) has been around for 27 years. DAW is a non-profit organization serving Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing individuals in San Antonio, Texas. Our goal is to create unity in the community and educate those individuals that work with the Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing population.

Our goal is to bridge the gap between two worlds by providing education to the public and services in the community. We offer information on what can be done to better the life of Deaf children through communication and technology. We want to provide unity among the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing by means of support, events, and listening to their frustrations in their community. We have the Miss Deaf San Antonio pageant once every two years to help the girls increase their self-esteem, leadership skills, and instill positive attitude. DAW is run mostly by Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing, and Hearing who have contributed to the Deaf community by providing services.

**Your donations are tax-deductible

Committees:
We have several committees which might interest you. You may even wish to serve on a committee. Each committee has an elected chairperson to assist in planning its events.

  • Banquet committee - This committee sets up locations where we can have our annual banquet. They raise money to support the event, contact local areas for donations and reserve various other essential items as needed for the banquet.

  • Pageant committee - This committee gathers possible contestants to compete in the Miss Deaf San Antonio Pageant (MDSAP). The group does fundraising, advertising, and setup for the MDSAP every 2 years.

  • Kids' Events committee - This committee works to have kids interact with each other. They organize activities for the kids that will provide a fun and enjoyable experience. This involves fundraising, advertising, gathering local support and securing a location for the kids to interact with one another.

  • Education and Awareness committee - This committee attempts to get other organizations and agencies, such as local businesses and the media, to support DAW. This involves advertising, supporting and giving back to our community, etc.
